CAS NO.: 1309-48-4
Molecular Formula:MgO
Product Characteristics:
Magnesium oxide is a white amorphous powder, odorless and tasteless, with a loose texture, large specific surface area, and strong adsorption capacity. It is slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in acids and ammonium salt solutions, and has strong alkalinity, which can neutralize gastric acid. Meanwhile, it is not easy to react with other substances at room temperature, making it convenient for storage and preparation.
Technical Data(Executive Standard USP41)
Applications:
1. Pharmaceutical Field
Antacids and gastric mucosal protectants: Used in the treatment of hyperacidity, gastric ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, etc. By neutralizing gastric acid (reacting with hydrochloric acid to form magnesium chloride and water), it reduces gastric acidity, relieves symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation, and protects the gastric mucosa from erosion by gastric acid. It is often combined with other antacid ingredients (such as aluminum hydroxide) to enhance efficacy and reduce side effects of single ingredients (e.g., long-term use of magnesium oxide may cause mild diarrhea).
Laxatives: After oral administration, it absorbs water in the intestines, increases fecal volume, and stimulates intestinal peristalsis, exerting a laxative effect. It is suitable for relieving constipation, especially for groups in need of mild laxatives such as the elderly and pregnant women.
Pharmaceutical excipients: Used as diluents, disintegrants, or anti-adherents in tablets and capsules to improve the formability and stability of drugs. For example, in tablets, it prevents particles from adhering to the surface of punches, ensuring the smooth progress of tableting.
Nutritional supplements: Magnesium is an essential mineral for the human body. Pharmaceutical-grade magnesium oxide can be used as a magnesium supplement to prevent and treat magnesium deficiency (such as that caused by malnutrition, chronic diarrhea, etc.), maintaining neuromuscular function and bone health.
2. Food and Health Product Industry
As a food additive (nutritional fortifier), it is added to dairy products, beverages, and cereal foods to supplement magnesium and meet human nutritional needs. In health products, it is made into magnesium supplements for regulating electrolyte balance in the body and improving sleep quality (e.g., magnesium participates in neurotransmitter transmission, helping to relieve anxiety).
3. Cosmetics and Personal Care
Taking advantage of its adsorptive and alkaline properties, it is added to anti-acne skin care products and antiperspirants to absorb oil on the skin surface, neutralize the acidity of sweat, reduce bacterial growth, and achieve cleaning and soothing effects.
4. Other Industrial Auxiliary Uses
Used as a stabilizer in pharmaceutical packaging materials to prevent chemical reactions between packaging materials and drugs, ensuring drug quality. It is used in the preparation of medical ceramics, dental materials, etc., utilizing its high temperature resistance and biocompatibility, such as being one of the components of dental fillings.
Packaging and Storage
This product is packaged in kraft paper bags, 25kg per bag, and can also be customized according to user requirements. It should be sealed and stored in a cool, dry place away from light, with a shelf life of twenty-four months.
