Theacrine (1,3,7,9-tetramethyluric acid) is a purine alkaloid found in the leaves of wild bitter tea (Camellia kucha Hung T. Chang). Its molecular structure contains one more methyl group than caffeine, a common alkaloid in tea leaves. This additional methyl group endows Theacrine with physiological functions and health benefits distinct from those of caffeine, attracting extensive attention from scholars in academia and the medical field. As a methylpurine drug, Theacrine has the following effects: strengthening the heart, promoting diuresis, dilating the coronary arteries, relaxing bronchial smooth muscles, and stimulating the central nervous system. Theacrine, also known as TeaCrine, is a natural alkaloid derived from plant extracts.
